An author (sometimes, in reference to a woman author, authoress) is defined both as "the person who originates or gives existence to anything" and that authorship determines responsibility for what is created. The second entry goes on to clarify that, when using the term "author," the "anything" which is created is most usually associated with written work.

How would I cite in APA style, a book with one author on the cover, but different authors in each chapter?
Q. I need to cite something from the author of chapter one Frascara. The book only has one author Bennett; however, each chapter in the book is written by varying authors, Bennett only wrote the introduction from what I can tell.

A. The name on the cover is the editor who collected the different authors' works, so you cite his/her name parenthetically, then in the bibliography, you delineate the contributors under the book's title.

What classic texts and/or authors are best to read for building a strong SAT/GRE vocabulary?
Q. I am an SAT tutor, and I have been asked this question a number of times by my students. I have inevitably replied: Dickens, Hawthorne, (F. Scott) Fitzgerald, and (James Fenimore) Cooper, because these are the authors whose works have forced me to crinkle my dictionary's spine. Does anyone agree/disagree, or know of any other authors that should be added to my list?

A. The Valley of the Dolls could be a surprising choice.

How many of the anti-feminists here have actually READ works by feminist authors?
Q. I've noticed that in the women's studies section here, there are a lot of hateful misogynists who love to spend their time here deriding women. Many of them seem to think that they know everything about feminism, though it's obvious that they know NOTHING about it. Perhaps if they tried actually READING works by feminist authors and trying to see things from a woman's perspective, they wouldn't be so quick to judge feminists so harshly. But then again, what am I saying? Perhaps they would just be happier if women still stayed home barefoot and pregnant, since it would obviously be to the anti-feminists' advantage if that happened.

A. Some of the questions I've seen asked suggest that very few have. Just look at this question; Many people have aggression, combativesness, and militance confused with mainline feminism. If they'd take time to read about it they'd see that's its about peaceful departure from subserviant, second class roles. Some people however like to stay in the bliss of ignorance.
