A. "Artforum" is a comprhensive magazine with quite an intenational scope, although it is an american magazine. "Frieze" is good too. although I find the writing there not as good. the focus is european art. for more art theory, critism and cultural studies issues try "Parkett"

A. If you like Graphic Design then How Magazine and Print Magazine are going to be you big winners. I went to school for product design (Industrial Design) so I still get ID magazine. (it also has some great graphic design ideas espeically in the promotional items arena) I have added a link of other magazines related to art if you are interested.

Any good magazines on art and creativity out there?
Q. Not necessarily for how-to but more for inspiration. I have looked at a magazine for Art and Business and it is really interesting (about galleries and whatnot) but I am really looking for one just about art and artists. .
Asked by venezia - Thu Feb 8 09:40:05 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I guess the "standards" are Artforum, Artnews and Art Papers (all can be found in your local Barnes and Nobles magazine section). Frieze is a good one for European art and culture. Juxtapoz covers the more pop and underground culture aspect of art. If you're interested in a specific medium, there are several for that. I'm a fibers/textiles/sculpture artist and my favorite is Selvedge from the UK. Also, if there's an art college in your area, I would go to their library and parouse through their collection of art magazines. They'll have the popular ones as well as really good specialized magazines on art, art theory, and various mediums.

How do I "get back into" art?
Q. When I was a lot younger, I used to really be into art in terms of drawing, painting, etc. As I got older, I became way too busy to do any of those things. I just attended an art show at my school and it has motivated me to pick up drawing again. The problem is that I don't know where to start. I really want to develop my skills over the summer, but I haven't done a proper illustration in about 5 years. Should I get art classes? Books? Art magazines?
Asked by xosweet03ox - Tue May 29 16:07:12 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Go outside or stay inside and start drawing. You will have to retrain your hand to work with your eyes. First do fast sketches, then add some details. Train your eyes to see in lights and darks. You can do it on your own, but you may want to enroll in a figure drawing class.
